Soccer Referee Clinics Scheduled for 2011

There will be a one-time offering within the Paducah area in 2011 for USSF soccer new & existing certification.  Date of the clinic is set for January 22-23 (Sat & Sun) for new refs and January 22 (Sat) for re-certification of existing refs.  Costs for the new ref clinic is $65 while the re-cert is $60.  Site location will be Concord Elementary School in Paducah.  These are Grade 8 USSF classifications.

For all refs, you must be in attendance forr all your session(s).  It will conclude with a multiple choice test for purposes of becoming certified that requires a passing a grade of 80%.  The Massac Soccer Boosters Association is offering support and encouragement for anyone that may be interested in pursing referee certification.  Based on the participation levels, a "prep" class can be offered for those interested in attending.

In order to be eligible to referee games in the McCracken Youth League and the future Metropolis Youth Soccer League, you will need to be certified.  Great way to earn some extra cash on something that is fun to do.  In addition, knowing the rules at a referee-level makes you a better player, coach, or fan.

Local Residents Complete Referee Clinic

Three Massac County residents successfully fulfilled the qualifications to become official USSF Soccer Referees on March 7.  Derek Lawrence, Alex Bellamey, and Ryan Schroeder, all of Massac County, completed the 16-hour course work along with making passing grades on the certification test.  As an USSF Grade 8 referee they are qualified to referee recreational and competitive youth soccer games up to the Under-18 age division.  "These boys worked hard and gave up a lot of time including sacrificing an entire weekend  to achieve this level. All should be congratulated for this accomplishment", said Troy Lawrence of the Massac Soccer Boosters.  Lawrence went on to say, "This is the first batch of graduating soccer referees from Metropolis which will not only begin to build the pool of local referees for the future youth league at the soon-to-be completed soccer complex but will also make these boys ultimately better soccer players for the new High School program. For now the boys are excited about getting out there and refereeing, making a little bit of money, and plus enjoying the fact that they are now more  knowledgeable about the rules than the coaches they presently play for." Among the various activities the Massac Soccer Boosters are involved in, the organization also provides a mentoring and support program for any new or prospective referees.
